Photos and Reports on 2007 Kurrajong Scarecrow Festival

Kurrajong Public School, NSW, excelled again in the 2007 Kurrajong Scarecrow Festival! The scarecrow-themed creative work produced by every class in the school won:

-- First prize in the Schools Category; and

-- First prize in the Special Projects Category.

  • Life sized scarecrows, created by Years 2, 5 and 6, adorned the school verandah and fence;
  • Colourful scarecrow artwork by Years 3 and 4 decorated the school windows;
  • Year 1 created an entire school class of scarecrow students (winning the Special Projects category); and
  • the Kindergarten children dressed as scarecrows and performed a delightful scarecrow dance.

Kindergarten

Mrs McGowan's class (with the help of their creative parents) dressed up as colourful scarecrows with big floppy hats. The children then did a wonderful scarecrow dance on stage to the music of 'I'm a Dingle Dangle Scarecrow with a Flippy Floppy Hat' for the school assembly and visitors.

Year 1

Each of the children in Mrs Barwick's Year 1 class made an individual school student scarecrow with paper plate faces and stringy blond mop hair. The children then combined their efforts to make a dazzling 'Mrs Barwick' scarecrow (see below). The whole group of 26 scarecrows set up in the classroom was awarded first place in the Special Projects category.

Year 2

Teams of students from Mrs Jones' Year 2 class made scarecrows of all different shapes and colours for the classroom verandah. One had spiky hair made from an upside down straw broom, another had a curly blue wig and another had a head made of plastic flower pots.

Years 3 and 4

Mrs Hooley's and Mr Gill's classes decorated their classroom windows with colourful scarecrow pictures and mini scarecrows. They made an attractive backdrop to the Year 5 and 6 scarecrows posed along the school fence.

Years 5 and 6

Students from Years 5 and 6 with their teachers, Mrs Bennett, Mrs Franks and Miss Bernacki built a diverse and colourful array of scarecrows that lined the school fence.

Year 6 are studying politics and made a funny matching pair of scarecrows representing Mr Howard and Mr Rudd competing for our votes.

Congratulations to Kurrajong Public School on their creative entries in the 2007 Kurrajong Scarecrow Festival and on their success in the 2007 scarecrow judging!
